Riverview Facility Inmate Overview
The DOCCS Riverview Correctional Facility page places Riverview in Ogdensburg and identifies it as a medium-security facility for males. Research lists Andrew Boyd as superintendent. Riverview is part of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, not the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office.
Riverview holds sentenced male state-prison incarcerated individuals in DOCCS custody. It is not a booking site for new St. Lawrence County arrests and it is not searched through a county jail roster. The county jail in Canton handles pretrial detention, local sentenced jail terms, and county jail population reports. Riverview handles a different custody stage after sentencing and DOCCS classification.

Riverview Facility Inmate Search
The correct public search is the New York DOCCS incarcerated lookup. It covers sentenced state-prison custody and facility assignment. It does not replace the St. Lawrence County jail search for people still held at the county correctional facility. The DOCCS lookup instructions support searches by last name alone, last name with birth year, or DIN or NYSID by itself.
- Open the DOCCS incarcerated lookup.
- Search by last name, or enter a DIN or NYSID if one is known.
- Use birth year to narrow name results when needed.
- Open the profile and check whether the listed facility is Riverview Correctional Facility.
- Recheck the location shortly before a visit because DOCCS transfers can occur.
The research notes that the DOCCS handbook warns families to check the lookup shortly before visiting. During transfer, a person's location may not be available until arrival at the next destination. DOCCS Central Office can be called at (518) 457-5000 during normal business hours for location help when needed.
Lookup limit: DOCCS public lookup does not list Youthful Offender status, and sealed or confidential records may be withheld.
Riverview Facility Inmate Contact
Use Riverview's DOCCS contact details for prison status, family contact questions, visit confirmation, and mail-related questions. The county jail in Canton cannot approve Riverview visits or change state-prison contact rules. State-prison contact should start with the facility or DOCCS public information channels.

Riverview Facility Inmate Visitation
Riverview visiting information in the research is effective January 1, 2026. The schedule is a DOCCS state-prison schedule, not the county jail schedule. Visitors should check DOCCS visiting information and Riverview's facility page before travel because state prison visits can be affected by facility operations, transfers, visitor approval, and statewide emergency rules.
| Population | Days | Hours | Latest arrival |
|---|---|---|---|
| All incarcerated individuals | Weekends | 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. | 2:30 p.m. |
| Special Housing Unit | Weekend or holiday hours | 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. | 2:30 p.m. |
Riverview's facility detail says weekend visits are allowed for all incarcerated individuals within the facility with no restrictions. The number of allowable visits is unlimited during visiting hours. Each visit may include three visitors and one child under five, if the child sits on an adult visitor's lap. SHU incarcerated individuals are allowed one non-legal visit in a seven-day period.
If the visit room becomes crowded, staff first ask for voluntary termination. If that does not solve crowding, local visitors within 100 miles may be terminated after three hours, followed by visitors from more than 100 miles after three hours, using a first-in, first-out sequence. Riverview's research adds that special-permission visits, or visits for incarcerated individuals who have not received a visit within six months, may receive special consideration from the Superintendent or Officer of the Day before termination.
Riverview Facility Inmate Mail
Riverview uses DOCCS state-prison rules for mail, packages, phones, and money. County jail services such as the St. Lawrence County jail kiosk, SmartDeposit, county GTL collect-call instructions, and Commerce Lane jail mail format do not apply unless DOCCS gives a matching instruction. Use the DOCCS family handbook and Riverview facility guidance before mailing items, setting up calls, or sending funds.
| Service | Research-supported detail | Reader action |
|---|---|---|
| State-prison mail rules apply | Verify current address format and restrictions with DOCCS | |
| Phone | DOCCS handbook says the call-home program uses collect calls and Securus accounts | Set up any account through current DOCCS-approved directions |
| Packages | State-prison package rules differ from county jail commissary and package rules | Check approved items, senders, and timing before ordering |
| Money | State-prison money procedures apply | Confirm current vendor, fee, and sender rules before payment |
Because the research did not locate a facility-specific fee schedule for Riverview, no dollar amount should be assumed. The safe route is to confirm current DOCCS vendor rules before using a payment service or mailing any package.
Riverview Facility Prison Records
DOCCS facility pages list programs available across state facilities, and Riverview's research includes alcohol and substance abuse treatment, anger management, educational and vocational programs, family development, guidance and counseling, library and law library services, recreation, religious services, sex offender treatment, temporary release, trauma programs, transitional services, veterans services, and volunteer services. The DOCCS handbook also describes mandatory transitional services and assigned Offender Rehabilitation Coordinators.
Riverview's facility page includes PREA audit reports, including a Cycle 4 PREA audit dated November 5, 2023. Those reports relate to prison oversight and safety review. They are separate from an individual Riverview Correctional Facility inmate record, which is searched through DOCCS lookup.
- DIN
- Department Identification Number assigned when a person is admitted to DOCCS custody.
- State ready
- A sentenced person still in county jail while waiting for DOCCS transfer.
- SHU
- Special Housing Unit. Riverview has specific SHU visiting limits in the research.
- Transfer
- A DOCCS move between facilities, which can change the correct visit destination.
Riverview Inmate Custody Boundaries
Riverview is one of two active DOCCS prisons in St. Lawrence County. The other is Gouverneur Correctional Facility, another medium-security male state prison. The sheriff-operated St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in Canton is a separate local jail for local arrests, pretrial detention, and short jail sentences. A person at Riverview may have no St. Lawrence County criminal case, and a person convicted in St. Lawrence County may be sent to a DOCCS facility outside the county.
No active BOP prison or ICE detention center was located inside St. Lawrence County during the research. Federal custody should be searched through the BOP inmate locator, while immigration detention should be searched through the ICE Online Detainee Locator. Those systems are separate from both the county jail and DOCCS. For county jail booking and local custody questions, use the St. Lawrence County jail inmate records route instead.
Note: Confirm Riverview assignment and visit status directly through DOCCS before travel, especially after a sentence or transfer.
